Instructor self-signup is now DISABLED by default. When instructor self-sign up is disabled, professors and TAs cannot sign up for a course from the Piazza home page. You can enroll other instructors under Enroll Professors/TAs via the Manage Class tab (see additional details below). Instructor self-signup can be disabled or enabled at any time. Be sure to click ‘Save Changes’ after making your selection. Please be sure to check your school’s policies and other applicable guidelines on enabling instructor self-signup.
To enroll other professors or TAs, please visit Manage Class > Manage Enrollment > Enroll Professors/TAs and simply copy and paste or manually enter their email addresses.
To block student self-signup, add an ‘Access Code’ to your course. Share your access code along with the Signup Link with authorized students for easy enrollment in your Piazza course. Your institution’s internal guidelines may require you to add an access code. Please be sure to check your school’s policies and other applicable guidelines to determine if an access code is required.
Access Codes and Student Self-Signup
Instructors can enable an access code to restrict student enrollment. After enabling an access code, instructors can share the code and class Signup Link with their students to allow restricted student self-enrollment. Instructors also have the option to enroll students manually via the ‘Manage Enrollment’ section of the Manage Class tab.
The access code can be edited at any time. Once all students have enrolled in a course, instructors can prevent additional enrollments by changing the access code.
Creating a New Piazza Class
When creating a new Piazza class, you will see the below prompts. Only the ‘first day of class’ information is required. You can configure your instructor and student enrollment settings through the ‘Manage Class’ tab. As a reminder, Instructor Self-Signup is disabled by default. Please be sure to check your school’s policies and other applicable guidelines when configuring your enrollment settings.
