With a few easy steps, you can add a Piazza class to your Microsoft Teams environment. Below, you’ll be guided to:

  • Find the Piazza app from within your Team
  • Log in to Piazza (or create an account on Piazza if you don’t already have one) from within Microsoft Teams,
  • Select from one of your existing active classes on Piazza, or
  • Create a new class if you haven’t yet created your class on piazza.com, or
  • Find your class if one of your fellow instructors already created it on piazza.com, and then
  • Finish adding this class to your Team

To get started, click the “+” icon to find the Piazza app within Teams:

Search for ‘Piazza’ in the top right search field. You will see the Piazza App returned in the search results.

Select the Piazza App, and click ‘Add’:

Next, you will be asked to sign in.

On the next page, you may be prompted to enter your Microsoft Teams password before you can continue to your Piazza account. Enter your Microsoft Teams credentials and grant permissions to the Piazza app.

If we detect a Piazza account with your Microsoft Teams email, you’ll automatically be taken to a page that lists all of your active classes. (Check out
this support page on logging in or creating an account if you’re prompted to log in or create an account on Piazza instead. That means that we weren’t able to detect a Piazza account with your Microsoft Teams email address.)

Here, you will see a list of all your active classes where you are enrolled as an instructor in the class. You can select from any of these classes, and press ‘Save’ to finish adding this class to your Team.

If you don’t see your class in this list, you can click the “Create your class now” link at the bottom of this page to create a new Piazza class.

Here, you will be prompted to enter your term and course name to start. On the next page, you’ll be able to finish creating your class if it does not already exist, or join an existing class if one of your fellow instructors already created it. If you need to change your school, you can click the “change school” link at the top, where you can switch to another school on Piazza or create a new school.

You can finish creating your class on the next page, by entering course number, course name, and estimated enrollment and selecting who you’d like to enroll as. You will need to accept Piazza’s Terms and Conditions.

You will now see this class in your list of active classes. Select it to finish adding it to your Team.

If your fellow instructor has already created your class on piazza.com, you will see your class when typing it in the class drop down.

Select this class to join as an instructor and finish adding it to your Team. If instructor self-signup is enabled for this class, you’ll immediately be enrolled and you can continue adding it to your Team.

If instructor self-signup is disabled for this class, another instructor will need to approve your request to enroll as an instructor before you can finish adding this class to your Team.

Once you’ve joined this class, you’ll see it in your list of classes, and you can then select it to finish adding this class to your Team. If instructor self-signup was disabled, you will need to wait for a fellow instructor to approve your enrollment request before you see this class in your list of classes.

You’ve now added your Piazza class to our Team! This class will appear as a tab at the top.

Finally, if you do not want students to be able to remove the Piazza app from your Team, adjust Member Permissions from your Team. Unselect the checkbox that allows members to add and remove apps:
